As we age, the skin loses its elasticity, and skin folds form on the eyelids, which are sometimes filled with fat deposits. These can also be influenced by other factors such as genetics, skin type, lifestyle, allergies, kidney disease, and so on.
Fat deposits won't go away on their own, so we recommend that you seek professional help.
This is not merely a cosmetic issue, but also a functional one. Excess skin and fat deposits can make it difficult to move the eyelids, thereby placing additional strain on the muscles around the eyes. Sometimes, the overhanging skin is so large that it obstructs vision and narrows the field of vision. This can lead to headaches, swelling, and eye strain.
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a very popular procedure at our clinic. We perform up to 560 eyelid corrections per year. The procedure itself is performed on an outpatient basis, using only local anesthesia. During this surgery, we remove excess skin from the eyelids and, as needed, reduce excess fat pockets that form a soft cushion for the eye within the eye socket.
The resulting scar on the upper eyelid is located along the natural crease where the skin folds when the eye is open. On the lower eyelids, it runs just below the lashes. To assess the success of upper eyelid surgery, we take before-and-after photos so that we don’t miss any changes in your skin.
Lower eyelid surgery, like upper eyelid surgery, is usually associated with swelling, which gradually subsides within 14 days. The condition of the eyes after surgery can be compared to eye irritation, such as that caused by conjunctivitis. Rest is very important to prevent bruising and ensure a smooth healing process, especially in the first few hours after surgery. After surgery, plan for 48 hours of rest with your eyes closed most of the time.
Blepharoplasty is suitable for both men and women who are bothered by tired-looking eyes with excess skin and fat deposits. At our clinic, we typically perform this procedure on patients aged 35 and older. We occasionally perform it on younger patients as well.

We do not recommend taking medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin, Anopyrin) for several days before the procedure. After consulting with your treating physician, it is also necessary to discontinue any blood-thinning medications you are taking. On the morning of the procedure, you should take your regular medications as usual and avoid drinking coffee.
Yes, once you have undergone eyelid and periorbital plastic surgery at our clinic, no further care is required, and you can return to the comfort of your home immediately. However, we recommend that you arrange your own transportation.
We recommend a one-week sick leave to our clients. If the bruising won’t interfere with your work, you can return after five days, or after three days if your health permits.
We strongly urge you to follow post-operative rest instructions; if you do, the risk of complications is minimal. Bruising is completely normal after the procedure and will fade within 14 days. Other risks, such as infection, healing complications, and the like, are uncommon but can occur, as with any wound.
Are there alternatives to the procedure?
Thanks to modern technology, you can now avoid the need for eyelid surgery. The Plexr method—plasma therapy without incisions or scars—is used for this purpose.
