Lip contouring and augmentation using hyaluronic acid fillers are among the most popular cosmetic procedures we perform at our Dermaestet clinic. Hyaluronic acid increases lip volume, defines their contours, corrects asymmetry, lifts drooping corners of the mouth, and reduces wrinkles above the upper lip.

Immediate results right after application

The use of hyaluronic acid as a lip filler produces immediate results. After each application, whether a large or small amount of filler is used, swelling occurs, so the lips appear significantly larger immediately after the procedure than they will in the final result. To achieve significant volume, multiple applications are required at two-month intervals, during which time the area heals completely and the hyaluronic acid is fully integrated into the tissue.

Hyaluronic acid does not have a permanent effect and is absorbed by the body over time. The duration of the effect varies from person to person, but is typically 6–12 months. It has been shown that smokers break down the filler more quickly. The procedure can be repeated at any time. With repeated procedures, care must be taken to prevent hyaluronic acid from migrating outside the lip area. If this occurs, the affected area must be dissolved to achieve a natural result, and new hyaluronic acid should only be applied after a minimum interval of 1 week. Hyaluronic acid often migrates due to strong facial expressions around the lips, so it is sometimes advisable to combine the filler application with botulinum toxin.

Lip Hydration

As we age naturally, our lips gradually lose their fullness and the sharpness of their contours. The surface becomes more wrinkled, the lips become thinner and saggy, and the distance between the nose and the edge of the lips increases. Along with drooping corners of the mouth, sagging lips are one of the most noticeable signs of aging.

Lip hydration is therefore recommended when the surface of the lips is chapped and cracked. In this case, hyaluronic acid is very gentle and is applied just beneath the surface. The result is plump, smooth lips.
