Due to aging, the effects of gravity, and facial expressions, the skin on the face gradually loses its elasticity and begins to sag. A comprehensive, long-term solution to the problem of sagging skin is facial plastic surgery, commonly known as a facelift.

A facelift involves the surgical removal of sagging and excess skin and subcutaneous fat. At the same time, the subcutaneous connective tissue is tightened.

When is it a good idea to get a facelift?

The onset of the skin aging process varies greatly from person to person. After a thorough assessment of the skin’s condition, we most often recommend a facelift to clients between the ages of 40 and 65.

The swelling is visible immediately after the procedure

The procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia and takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision behind the ears and in the hairline to tighten and lift the fascia (the tough membrane covering the muscles) and the platysma muscle. The surgeon then removes excess skin from the face and neck and tightens the underlying connective tissue structures.

The tightening of the skin is visible immediately after the procedure. If desired, even better results can be achieved by combining a facelift with hydrolifting, mesotherapy, or the Vital Injector.

Facelift and the subsequent recovery period

The client goes home immediately after the procedure; we recommend arranging for someone to accompany and drive them home. The subsequent recovery period varies greatly from person to person and depends on each individual’s ability to heal.

During treatment, bruising and swelling may occur as side effects, but these usually subside within 10 days. Clients are typically fully healed after 10–14 days. During this time, it is also necessary to rest and limit head and neck movement. Normal office work can be resumed after just one week.

A standard facelift usually requires more than just local anesthesia; it typically involves hospitalization and is more taxing on patients. A mini-facelift is performed using shorter incisions, making this method less invasive and allowing it to be performed under local anesthesia. As a result, it offers benefits such as:

All of these names refer to a method in which the so-called SMAS layer (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) is repositioned. This is a subcutaneous connective tissue and muscle structure that, with age, shifts to the lower part of the face and neck.
