Breast augmentation or breast contouring using the patient’s own fat, known as autoaugmentation, is a very popular procedure in the field of cosmetic surgery. The procedure involves augmenting the breasts with the patient’s own fat, which is harvested from other areas of the body. These are most often problem areas such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs.
In a single procedure, this slims down problem areas while simultaneously achieving the desired breast augmentation or reshaping.

During autoaugmentation, the client’s own fat is transferred from one area to another, where it subsequently acts as a filler. The harvested fat is most often injected into the upper part of the breasts, thereby enhancing the cleavage.
This method is also suitable for effectively correcting breast asymmetry, refining the contours or shape of the breasts following implant augmentation, or restoring the breasts after reconstructive surgery performed for medical reasons.
We perform the procedure under local anesthesia. During the surgery, we first remove fat from the selected area using gentle laser liposuction. We then purify the fat to ensure it contains only viable fat cells, and using a micro-needle, we inject this prepared material into the tissue above and below the mammary gland, as well as into the muscle. Thanks to the stem cells contained in the fat tissue, the filler quickly becomes a natural part of the breasts. The entire procedure takes about 2–2.5 hours.
Autoaugmentation offers several advantages over traditional breast implants. The biggest advantages are the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, reduced pain, and the fact that it leaves virtually no scars. The risk of rejection of foreign material is eliminated, and there is no need to replace the implants after a certain period of time. This lipografting method is most often chosen by clients who prefer a natural look and desire a fuller bust without the use of synthetic implants.
The results are always highly individual and depend on many factors, including, in particular, the amount of fat removed, its absorption, and the subsequent integration of the adipose tissue.
It is important to keep in mind that the body can only successfully absorb a limited amount of fat. To stabilize and enhance the results, the procedure can therefore be repeated after a few months.
The transfer of a patient’s own fat from one part of the body to another, known as lipografting, is also referred to as lipofilling or lipotransfer. Lipografting is used not only for breast augmentation (autoaugmentation) but also to improve the shape and volume of the face, arms, buttocks, or other parts of the body.
The biggest difference lies in the use of the patient’s own tissue in the form of body fat. This eliminates the risk associated with the body rejecting foreign synthetic material. It also eliminates the need to replace the implants after a few years. Another difference is that with autoaugmentation, the bust can be enlarged by a maximum of one cup size on the first procedure. The final result is always highly individual and not as dramatic as with breast implants.
Once the fat has taken hold, it behaves like your own tissue—so if you lose weight, the volume will decrease; if you gain weight, the volume will increase.
A prerequisite for this procedure is the successful extraction of at least 600 ml of fat. For this reason, the method is not suitable for very slim women. Another requirement for undergoing autoaugmentation is being at least 18 years of age and, of course, the client’s overall health, which is subject to a thorough preoperative examination.
The incision sites usually heal within a few days and leave no scars. We do not recommend that the client lie on her stomach for a few days after the procedure. No special undergarments are required after the procedure. Any swelling or soreness associated with liposuction usually subsides within 2 weeks, and the client is generally able to perform normal activities throughout the recovery period. We recommend limiting physical activity for 3–4 weeks.
Lipografting is a method of transferring the patient’s own fat from one part of the body to another. Autoaugmentation refers to a specific type of lipografting focused on breast contouring.
